Imagination Library

Dolly Parton's Imagination Library Humboldt County, California

The 'seeds of change' starts with a book
in the hands of a child.

Donation Page

Fundraising and Information Page

Greetings:

If you already made a donation, Thank You. Your donation will allow a child to get a book and start their own dreams and imagination.

The goal is to get books into the hands of children so that they develop a love of books and reading.

Inspired by her father’s inability to read and write, Dolly Parton started her Imagination Library in 1995 for the children within her home county. Today, her program spans five countries and gifts over 2 million free books each month to children around the world. Why books? Dolly Parton explains...

"The seeds of these dreams are often found in books and the seeds you help plant in your community can grow across the world.”

Every $15 collected, allows a child to get a book monthly for a year (12 books every year). They keep the book for their library. The books are age appropriate (2 year olds get different books than 4 year olds). There is also a bi-lingual Spanish book option available. All donations collected go to pay Imagination Library costs.

Imagination Library started in Humboldt county May 2024, when the Bridgeville Community Center partnered with the Imagination Library as the Humboldt County representative and started sending books to children in Humboldt County. As of January 2025, we have over 1,500 children signed up to get books on a monthly basis, and have mailed out over 15,000 books. Every donation we receive allows us to send books to children.

All donations received are used to pay the Imagination Library fees on a monthly basis, no money is taken out for administrative purposes. Donations are tax-deductible (we are a 501 (c) non-profit organization).

We are also looking for Cornerstone Partners, individuals and organizations who can commit to donating on a yearly basis, to ensure the long term sustainablity of the program. Become part of the legacy that provides the gift of books to children in our community.

You can donate to help support this program by:

  • check (payable to the Bridgeville Community Center)
  • online with credit cards/debit cards via paypal
  • drop off donation at any Redwood Capitol Bank to the Dolly Parton Imagination Library Humboldt account

BACKGROUND INFORMATION:

This is the Fundraiser Page to raise money for the Dolly Parton Imagination Library program in Humboldt County, California. The Imagination Library is a program that sends books to children under the age of five on a monthly basis, free of charge to the families. The Bridgeville Community Center has been the Imagination Library's Humboldt County partner since April 2024 (the first year of operation).

The goal of this project is to get books to children aged from newborn and up to the age of 5, (they 'graduate' when they turn 5). The books gets mailed monthly from Dolly Parton's Imagination Library directly to their house.

If you wish to sign your child up for the Imagination Library please go to: www.ImaginationLibrary.com

Over 1,500 Humboldt County children under five years old are currently registered and getting books on a monthly basis as part of Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library program. The Bridgeville Community Center, as the Imagination Library partner, is fundraising to help cover the costs for the program for these children.

As of January 2025, we have mailed out over 15,000 books to children located in Humboldt (and Mad River and Ruth in Trinity County).

Eligible children are signed up by a parent or guardian. Each year they get 12 books, once a month, mailed directly to their house. One year will cost approximately $15.00, which comes out to $1.25 a book mailed to the child. These lower costs are because the state of California is covering half the costs starting this summer. With Dolly Parton and your donation, you can make these book dreams come true. There are some 6,000 eligible aged children living in the county, and we hope that any child that applies will be funded, and we need the community's help to do that.

Read below Donation Information for more information about the Imagination Library and how your donation helps.

The Dolly Parton Imagination Library Program

Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library is dedicated to inspiring a love of reading by gifting books free of charge to children from birth to age five, through funding shared by Dolly Parton and local community partners in the United States, Canada, United Kingdom, Australia and Republic of Ireland.

Why send books to kids 0 - 5 years old?  As Dolly explains, she was inspired by her father’s inability to read and write. Dolly started her Imagination Library in 1995 for the children within her local county. Today, her program spans five countries and gifts over 1 million free books each month to children around the world.

“When I was growing up in the hills of East Tennessee, I knew my dreams would come true. I know there are children in your community with their own dreams. They dream of becoming a doctor or an inventor or a minister. Who knows, maybe there is a little girl whose dream is to be a writer and singer.

The seeds of these dreams are often found in books and the seeds you help plant in your community can grow across the world.”
~ Dolly Parton

The Imagination Library has mailed out over 271 million books since the program started to over 2 million children. That is a great start.

How It Works

Each month, Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library mails a high quality, age appropriate book to all registered children, addressed personally to them, at no cost to the child’s family. The free books are offered to all children under five in the county, regardless of family income.

The Bridgeville Community Center is fundraising to get books into the hands of children in Humboldt County and Mad River and Ruth in Trinity County. While the parents do not get charged for getting the books mailed directly to their home, there is a cost involved and we are fundraising to cover those costs. This is a win-win situation. With your donations we plan on getting every child a book in Humboldt County (and parts of Southern Trinity) who applies for the program.

How Your Donation Helps

The Bridgeville Community Center, as a partner with the Dolly Parton Imagination Library, is responsible for raising the funds to cover the costs, as well as register eligible children. There is no cost to the family receiving the books. The Bridgeville Community Center raises funds covering the costs of the mailing. We thank you for your donation.

Donations to the Imagination Library fund will allow a child to get a book every month. We do have to limit who receives books based on funding. If you are interested in partnering with us to raise funding, please contact us. Our goal is to provide books to all kids who qualify. We need your help with funding.

The goal is to get children interested in reading books and develop a love for books. Reading is good for the child, the family, and makes for a better community. Book dreams can come true.

We appreciate your donation.

Thank you for your support.
